kAwOken for KDE - preview by alecive kAwOken for KDE - preview by alecive
UPDATE 23-07-11: Official Release of the iconset.

UPDATE 06-07-11: Fixed bad resolution icons for akregator, clementine and so on.

UPDATE 01-07-11: Improved Amarok and Dolphin support (as you can see in bottom screenshots).

This is my first try to port AwOken iconset on KDE environment.

I'll call it kAwOken, to let users to use distinctly AwOken iconset when they're on GNOME and kAwOken iconset when they use KDE.

Note that now this is only a working example. You can download the iconset here: [link]

It will have all the features provided by AwOken iconset, i.e. a script that lets you to choose between:

  • 100^3 colors

  • 115 distributor logos (this number is growing according to the requests)

  • 48 folder types

  • 4 trash types

  • 5 computer icons

  • 5 home icons

In these screenshots I want to show a working example of kAwOken iconset.

Here's a quick description of the screenshots:

TOP SCREENSHOTS:
  • Wall: [link] (check his gallery, it's great!)

  • Theme: Oxygen (default)

  • Plasma Theme: Aero (default)

  • Iconset: kAwOken colored with 99 30 00 colors

PS: Even if you can't see it, the blue version is already available. Just open a terminal and go in kAwOken folder in your user icon folder (either .kde/share/icons/kAwOken or .kde4/share/icons/kAwOken , depending on your distro), and then type:

    ./kawoken-icon-theme-customization

It will run a customization script from wich you can color icons with whatever color you want! For that blue type the code posted in the deviation [i.e. 99 30 00 - but you can choose a lot of more colors], and then select the new iconset created in such way!

MIDDLE SCREENSHOTS:
  • Wall: [link] (another great wallpaper)

  • Theme: Drakfire Black KDE [link] (also color scheme is kept from his great theme)

  • Plasma Theme: Caledonia

  • Iconset: kAwOken with default colors

BOTTOM SCREENSHOTS:
  • Wall: [link]

  • Theme: [link] (simply great!)

  • Plasma Theme: [link] (and this too! :) )

  • Iconset:kAwOken colored with 65 65 00 colors

PS: Even if you can't see it, the blue version is already available. Just open a terminal and go in kAwOken folder in your user icon folder (either .kde/share/icons/kAwOken or .kde4/share/icons/kAwOken , depending on your distro), and then type:

    ./kawoken-icon-theme-customization

It will run a customization script from wich you can color icons with whatever color you want! For that blue type the code posted in the deviation [i.e. 65 65 00 - but you can choose a lot of more colors], and then select the new iconset created in such way!

So, please download it, use it, try it and give as more feedback as you can! :)

How this happened for you to have blur behind the taskbar and application menu with Oxygen and Aero themes ? (top screenshots)

It's one of the modalities (or activities, don't know) with which any kde distro comes! I actually don't remember, this screenshot is one year old :) (Btw kawoken icons did a long way since then, now they're way better!)

LOVE this theme :D it's brilliant the way you can color the icons and create a new icon theme :)
I have a couple of small issues though:
1- Is there a way to make firefox also follow this icon theme? (i'm using kubuntu 11.04 and FF5)
2- When I apply the icon theme, the system tray icons won't change, although their popups (when you hover over the tray icon) DO change and follow kAwOken. How can I change the tray icons to follow kAwOken?

Thanks for compliments mate!

For your questions, here's the answers:

1. unfortunately, all gtk applications doesn't follow icon theme specifications, you have to do some tricks but I really don't know what tricks (scan the internet :) )

2. from kde4, systray icons are not the icon theme one, but they're the plasma theme icons. In my opinion this is stupid, but anyway I'll release a plasma theme after the first official release of kAwOken :)

Thank you for responding so quickly :)

As for issue number 1, I finally figured it out: you have to go to the directory pointed to by the firefox-bin executable, there you have to replace every firefox logo image with the kAwOken one. I don't know, but it might be a good tip to include in the kAwOken user manual ;)

I will be patiently waiting for your plasma theme (if I may give you an idea about that, to decrease the effort for creating a plasma theme, you can base it onto one that already follows KDE colors like Aya)

I have a question/asking for permission from you. As I love your icon set so much, and I use JDownloader all the time, I was thinking of creating a JDownloader theme (more like image replacements) that matches kAwOken. Can I do that? Would you be willing to include the folder with the new images in the next version of your theme?

Thanks again for making the great user experience of linux even greater :)

No problem for JDownloader theme, it will be fine! But unfortunately I cannot add it to the iconset since I already have an issue with the big iconset dimensions, so I prefer to do my best to mantain the iconset as little as possible!

Anyway, I'd be very glad to add a link in the deviation description.. :)

I have a question, as I'm picking icons that work with JDownloader. When you overlay two icons on top of each other, do you do them on separate layers and then flatten the icon? I'm kind of new at the graphics stuff so I'm still learning these things :)

i just tried it out - and it looks sooo good!!! even the standard-set looks marvelous! fantastic!! fabulous!!! gorgeous!!!! ...

the only "kink" i noticed is the gnome-logo for the kde-control-center. then again i found a Mageia-logo included. i'm very happy about this! :boogie:

Thanks mate! The gnome logo will be the last fix (I prefer doing this since it's more comfortable to me mantain the iconset in this way).

But what did you mean with "Mageia"?

oh! :stupidme: since i installed your icon-set my panel shows a wonderful K-menu-button with a slight colored symbol of my Mageia-distribution (which is a fork from Mandriva). and i thought, it came out of your icons-set.

but now i have looked into the icon-folder and i could find it anywhere. God only knows, where it comes from ...

But if you ever plan to make one: the resource is downloadable at [link] under the caption "Some Useful Links" ...

ANYWAY - i love your adept of awoken!

Maybe is my knowledge of english that doesn't let me fully understand your message.. but this mageia symbol is inside the k-menu-button or close to it?

However, do you know that you can customize the iconset changing for example the k-menu button?

Anyway, nice logo is the mageia one!! I might add it to the start-here options! :)

the logo is on (!) the button - and i can choose it in the symbol-selection-dialog under the category "Applications". but i can't find it anywhere in the folders /usr/share/icons, ~/.local/share/icons or ~/.kde4/share/icons. it's a kind of mystery.

by the way: i tried the configuration-script and selected the "dark" set - but only the "start-here" icon is dark. the others stay silver as they are at default. could it be, because the "/kawoken-icon-theme-customization-dark"-script is not in your deviantart-download-file?

For mageia can you take a screenshot of this, so I can understand better?

For the dark version can you explain me in a detailed way (maybe with another screenshot) what you did?

look at the screenshot: [link]

the vertical panel starts in the top-right corner of my screen with the KDE-menu-plasmoid. i chose the Mageia-Logo for its symbol, but i don't know, where it is on my computer. i can't find it with dolphin ...

BUT THIS IS NO PROBLEM FOR YOU. it has nothing to do with your icon-set!!!

regarding the script i misread the dialog-window, where i could chose if i want dark FOLDER-icons or something else. i first thought, all of the icons will be dark - not only the folders. i'm sorry to cause you worries about that. EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE!!!

Ok for mageia, I understood.

However, for your (and I hope others) pleasure, I did 5 new start-here for mageia, that you can use to replace the kde start-here icon (I don't know it's correct name since I'm currently on GNOME, but you can see it in the bottom-left corner of my screenshots). I'm uploading the set, and I hope that maybe in half an hour the upload it's complete. So just try it! :)

For the dark folders ok. However, are you aware of the fact that you can color the iconset in the way you prefer? If for example you want a dark version, try with 60-60-60 color combination.. And obviously, after coloring it, you can customize it independently from its original one! :)

Great work man!!
Dark (grey or black) icons for light themes - something I miss the most.
Blue version doesn't look good for me.
If you have spare time try to do dark version (negative of bottom screenshots)
You'll be my god

There's already a dark version. Check the pdf, using the script you can color icons in whatever color you want!

Try 60-60-60 combination ;)
